This week in the fun science for kids post, we’re exploring the melting point of chocolate!
Science question for kids: Which chocolate melts in your hand—milk chocolate or dark chocolate?
Materials: Piece of milk chocolate and piece of dark chocolate
What kids can do: Place the milk chocolate in the palm of one hand and the dark chocolate in the palm of the other hand. Close your hands over the chocolate. Wait 1-2 minutes. Now open your hands. See which chocolate left more melted or gooey chocolate on your palms.
Why this happens: Milk chocolate has more milk fat and less cacao compared to dark chocolate. Since milk fat melts at a lower temperature than cacao, milk chocolate is more likely to melt in your hand.
P.S. We love experimenting with chocolate so much that we created a Chocolate subscription box for kids. If you missed it, it'll be back in the future!
